If
you own a canvas awning, it is certainly only a matter of time until
you look at it and think to yourself, “I should clean that.”
So, in order to best help you understand how to do so, the following
tips have been included:
• Hose it off – One of the best offenses is a great defense
and one of the best ways to clean your canvas awning is to simply
keep it from getting dirty in the first place. Instead of gearing
up for a vigorous cleaning every few months, it may be a better idea
to instead simply hose it off once every 3-4 weeks. Doing so will
allow you to prohibit things like mildew and debris from building
up.
• Watch the soap – One of the convenient things about
cleaning an awning like this is the fact that the cleaning can be
done while the awning is still attached or when it has been taken
down. But, regardless of when you plan to do the cleaning, you should
make sure that you are using natural soap. You should never use dishwashing
liquid and you should never use dishwasher detergent.
• Keep it warm – The water should be lukewarm when you
wash the canvas awning. While the water can be cold, it should not
be hotter than 100 degrees ever. Hot water will cause problems for
being able to maintain the awning.
