By
and large, commercial and residential awnings are actually quite similar.
They perform similar duties and in general they look alike. But, there
are definitely a couple big differences that are often noticed.
• Retractability – While there are both commercial and
residential awnings that are retractable, they are not quite the same.
Most of the awnings on residential places are retractable up to just
a couple of feet and usually this is on the windows.
The fact that the awnings are usually rather small in residential
places certainly makes a big difference between them and commercial
awnings.
The retractable awnings that are used for commercial settings are
usually a bit nicer and a bit bigger. Store owners will often use
these awnings on busy streets to cover up their merchandise. At the
same time, the awnings are usually so long that they can cover the
sun from a full glass window.
Although these are retractable like the residential awnings, the
commercial ones are often powered by a motor that works to open and
close the awning with minimal effort on the part of the owner.
• Size – Most of the awnings for homes are just large
enough to place atop doors and house windows. Because storefronts
are often quite long, the commercial awnings can take several feet
long of space.
If you want to buy both commercial and residential awnings, that
may be a good idea, but it is important to get different kinds of
awnings to serve these different purposes.
