A patio awning is perfect for providing shade for your deck, porch or patio. It makes your patio an extension of your home allowing you to enjoy the outdoors rain or shine.
If you’re thinking about purchasing a patio awning you’ll want to start by measuring your patio and deciding how large you want your awning to be. It’s pretty simple. First, measure the height of the wall you will be mounting the awning to. You should start from the floor of the patio. Next measure the horizontal length of your patio. If you can’t find an awning that fits your patio then you can have one specially made. Awnings can be custom made to fit the specific dimensions of your patio. This ensures for shade coverage all around instead of buying one that is too small and having it inadequately cover the patio.
It’s also important to know that proper care of your awning will increase its life and keep it looking great. Fabric awnings should be washed about three times per year. A white awning may need to be washed more frequently. Metal awnings should be purchased with a rust proof coating as they will be exposed to the rain and snow throughout the year. Take down your fabric awning in winter months. Roll it up, and keep it stored somewhere clean where it won’t collect too much dirt and debris. Retractable awnings can simply be retracted into their protection casing for winter storage.
